Frameless glass balustrades

A frameless glass balustrade, built to your run

A glass balustrade is a run of toughened-laminated safety glass that guards a balcony, terrace, landing or staircase while keeping the view and the light completely open. With no posts or rails breaking up the glass, it's the most contemporary way to make an edge safe — indoors or out.

Every Vant Glass balustrade is made to measure: we split your run into equal panels cut to the millimetre and supply your chosen mounting system — a frameless base channel, discreet standoff spigots or traditional posts — with an optional slimline or round handrail. Choose clear, tinted or frosted glass, and we deliver free across mainland UK.

Choose your system

Three ways to mount your glass

The mounting system sets the look and the fixing method. Here's how each one works — switch between them live in the 3D configurator above.

Base channelSpigotsPosts

Base channel

The cleanest frameless look — glass is gripped in a continuous aluminium channel with no visible fixings. Ideal for balconies and terraces.

Standoff spigots

Discreet stainless clamps along the base hold each panel. A minimal, modern detail that suits stairs, landings and decking.

Posts

Vertical posts between panels carry the glass — the most economical and traditional option, simple to fix and very robust.

Installation

How to fit your glass balustrade

The process below is for a frameless base-channel system — spigots and posts follow the same set-out and glazing principles.

StructureGlassChannelWedge & gasket
Cross-section of a base-channel system: the glass is wedged and gasketed into a channel bolted to the structure.
  1. 1

Set out & fix the base

Mark your line, then bolt the base channel — or the spigot/post bases — securely to the structure with fixings rated for the load.

  2. 2

    Prepare the channel

For a base-channel system, insert the rubber gaskets and wedges into the channel ready to grip the glass.

  3. 3

    Lower the glass in

With two or more people, lower each toughened-laminated panel into the channel (or onto the spigots), leaving an even gap between panels.

  4. 4

    Wedge, plumb & level

Tap the wedges in to grip each panel and adjust until it's vertical and perfectly aligned along the whole run.

  5. 5

    Add the handrail (optional)

Fit the slimline or round handrail along the top of the panels, then clip on the channel cover or cladding.

  6. 6

    Final check

Confirm every panel is secure, level and evenly spaced, then clean the glass down.

Safety first

A balustrade is a structural guarding component. Your fixings, channel and substrate must be rated for the design load, and the installation must meet current building regulations — guard height is typically 1100mm on a balcony. For balconies and elevated edges we strongly recommend a qualified installer.

Glass balustrade FAQs

How do I measure my balustrade run?

Measure the total length you want to enclose and the height of glass you need (1100mm is the usual guard height for balconies). We split the run into equal panels and cut each to the millimetre.

Channel, spigots or posts — what's the difference?

A base channel gives the cleanest frameless look with no visible fixings. Standoff spigots are discreet stainless clamps along the base. Posts are the most economical and traditional. The 3D preview updates as you choose.

Do I need a handrail?

Not always — frameless channel systems are often used without one. Add a slimline or round handrail for extra reassurance or where building control requires it.

What glass is used?

Toughened-laminated safety glass as standard, so it stays intact if ever broken. Choose thickness to suit your span, height and mounting system.

Is delivery free and is it guaranteed?

Yes — free UK-wide delivery, carefully packed, and all glass is manufactured in Britain and covered by our guarantee.
