What Does a Roof Light Cost in 2026? An Honest Pricing Guide

What actually drives the price of a made-to-measure roof light — size, glazing, glass options and range — and how to compare quotes without being misled.

Search for roof light prices and you find two useless extremes: ‘from £199!’ teasers for tiny stock sizes, and ‘POA’ walls that hide everything behind a sales call. As the manufacturer, we can be more useful than either — here is what genuinely moves the price of a bespoke roof light, so any quote you read makes sense.

Driver one: glass area

Roof lights are priced substantially per square metre of glass, so a 2000×1000mm unit costs roughly twice the glass of a 1000×1000mm one — not twenty times, as some retail mark-ups imply. This is why an honest price scales smoothly with size, and why our calculators reprice live as you type dimensions: the relationship between size and cost is not a secret and should not be treated as one.

Driver two: the range

Framed is the value benchmark — the same glass in a thermally broken aluminium frame. Frameless typically runs 15–25% above it for the same area, paying for the structural bonding and the invisible sightlines. Walk-on sits above both, because the top pane is thick structural laminated glass engineered for foot traffic — you are buying a floor and a roof light in one unit.

Driver three: the glass specification

Solar control, self-cleaning coatings, frosted privacy glass and triple glazing each add a modest, visible uplift — typically a fraction of the base price rather than a multiple of it. The calculator shows each option repriced live, which is the fairest way to decide: you see exactly what the July-comfort upgrade costs for your actual unit.

How to compare quotes fairly

  • Same sizes, same glazing spec, whole-unit like for like — not one supplier's centre-pane spec against another's whole unit.
  • Check the guarantee — ours is 20 years on the sealed unit, and shorter cover elsewhere is a real price difference hiding in the small print.
  • Ask who manufactures it. A reseller quotes you a manufacturer's price plus their margin; we are the factory, which is why the lowest-price guarantee is safe to offer.

The fastest way to a real number is two minutes in a calculator with your actual dimensions — and if you find the same specification cheaper elsewhere, our lowest-price guarantee means we want to know about it. For anything non-standard, the bespoke enquiry page gets you a same-day priced answer from the factory.

Frequently asked questions

Why do roof light prices vary so much between websites?

Mostly margin structure and spec games: resellers add a distribution margin, and some quotes compare a bare centre-pane spec against a whole finished unit. Compare identical whole-unit specifications from the actual manufacturer and the spread narrows sharply.

Is a bespoke size more expensive than a stock size?

Not from a made-to-order factory — you pay for the area and specification, not for the fact the dimension is non-standard.

What does delivery cost?

Nothing — UK mainland delivery is free on every order, mostly on our own transport.

Does the 20-year guarantee cost extra?

No. Every unit we manufacture carries it as standard.
