Fitting note: the glass is carried by the timber upstand, not the silicone. Size your opening so the inner pane is supported on all four sides — see the guide below.

Critical installation note

The glass is carried by the upstand — not the silicone

A frameless rooflight is a heavy sealed glass unit. Its weight must bear down onto the timber upstand. The glazing tape and structural silicone seal and bond the unit — they are not designed to hold its weight. If the opening is cut too wide, the inner pane is left hanging over the void, the bonded seal slowly creeps, and over time the glass can slip off the upstand and fall.

!

Size your opening so the inner pane is supported on all four sides

The structural opening must be smaller than the inner pane so the glass laps onto the timber around the entire perimeter. Never make the opening wider than the glass.

CorrectInner pane fully supported
CORRECTLY SIZED OPENINGsupportedsupported

The opening is narrower than the inner pane, so the glass laps onto the timber on every side. The load passes straight down into the upstand — secure for the life of the 20-year guarantee.

IncorrectInner pane hanging over the void
OPENING CUT TOO WIDEno supportno support

The opening is wider than the inner pane, so its edges cantilever over thin air. Only the silicone holds the glass — it creeps under load and the unit will eventually drop.

Frameless rooflights

Glass edge to edge, with nothing in the way of the sky.

Frameless flat rooflights are the minimal alternative to a framed unit. The glass sits edge to edge with no visible frame inside or out, so all you see from below is glass and sky.

Designed to maximise natural light, they integrate into the architecture of the space rather than sitting on top of it — an unobstructed view, with no frame to interrupt it.

They hold high standards of thermal efficiency, safety and durability while staying more affordable than a framed rooflight, which makes them our most popular made-to-measure unit.

  • Seamless design

Exceptional water tightness. Every frameless rooflight is fully encapsulated and weatherproof.

  • Air tight

The bonded, frameless build gives top-tier air tightness and insulation.

  • Safety guaranteed

Thermally toughened throughout, for maximum safety and durability.

Installation

Two steps, once the upstand is ready.

  1. 1

    Apply the glazing tape

Bed the foam tape onto the batten so the inner pane lands on a continuous, even seal.

  2. 2

    Apply structural glazing silicone

Run the bead over the flashing on the upstand top — this is what the outer pane beds onto.

Note
The weather seal should be installed before the rooflight, by others.

Frameless rooflight FAQs

What sizes can you make?

Every frameless rooflight is built to order, so you can specify any width and length to the millimetre — from a compact hallway skylight to a large feature glass over an open-plan kitchen.

What does “frameless” actually mean?

The glass sits edge-to-edge with no visible frame inside or out, for the most minimal, contemporary look. A slim, low-profile upstand carries the unit — all you see from inside is glass and sky.

Double or triple glazed — which should I choose?

Double glazing suits most projects and is our best value. Triple glazing adds a third pane for the best thermal performance and noise reduction — ideal for habitable rooms and colder exposures.

What glass options are available?

Choose clear or solar-control glass (which reduces heat gain and glare), plus tints and laminated safety options. Every unit is a high-performance, energy-efficient sealed glass unit made in the UK.

Is delivery really free?

Yes — UK-wide delivery is free on every order. Your made-to-measure rooflight is carefully packed and protected for transit; get in touch for current lead times on your configuration.

Are they guaranteed?

All our glass units are covered by a 20-year guarantee and manufactured in Britain to exacting standards.
